St Peter’s School, York was founded in AD 627, making it one of the oldest schools in the world. The school sits on a 50-acre riverside campus within York city centre, operating as a co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 2 to 18. Around 1,000 pupils move through Nursery, Junior, Senior and sixth form phases on a single, continuous site. That degree of coherence across age groups is unusual for a school of this age and scale. St Peter’s is a member of HMC (Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference) and was rated ‘Excellent’ across both quality of education and pupils’ personal development by ISI (Independent Schools Inspectorate) in 2023.
The Senior school teaches GCSEs, with A-levels offered in the sixth form. Most sixth formers take four subjects in the Lower Sixth before narrowing to three in the Upper Sixth. The 2024 A-level results recorded 62% at A*–A, 87% at A*–B, and 98% at A*–E. At GCSE, 68% of grades were 9–7 in 2024, indicating consistent performance across both key stages.
The sixth form takes both internal pupils and external candidates. Fees for international sixth form boarders stand at £55,950 per year (2026–27, inc. VAT), with UK/EEA full boarding at £51,945. Day sixth form fees are £30,330 per year. The breadth of the A-level offer supports applications to competitive UK and international university destinations.
